WCPE Goes Mobile
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Webmaster Eric Maynard of WCPE, TheClassicalStation.org, announces the availability of “Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day” on 3G mobile devices. Also, WiFi devices such as night stand internet radios can access our signal from a home wireless network.
American Public Media has provided the Public Radio Tuner TM app for the Apple iPhone TM and iPodTouch TM 3G devices. americanpublicmedia.publicradio.org is the address for instructions on downloading and installing this free application. Other 3G devices that have an MP3 player installed can listen by going directly to our address theclassicalstation.org/listen.shtml and choosing the MP3 stream.
“Gurus predicted handheld devices would start taking over the popular imagination,” says Maynard. “And that day has come.” He adds, “WCPE wants to make Great Classical Music a big part of this new idiom.”
“Thanks to Paul Jones, Don Sizemore and the entire staff at iBiblio,” continues Webmaster Maynard. “Their hard work helps increase our listenership on the Web and 3G.” Furthermore, “Soon, the 4G standard will reach even the most remote rural locations!”
Homes with a wireless network can use internet radios which can access thousands of streaming radio stations without having a computer on. The output can then be rebroadcast by micro power FM transmitters to all the radios in your house. Soon there will be WiFi and 3G car radios so you can get “Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day” on the highways.
These WiFi devices get their information from databases of radio stations. If you know of a station database where WCPE is not included, call us at 1-800-556-5178 or contact Webmaster Eric Maynard at webmaster@TheClassicalStation.org or Outreach Director Curtis Brothers at curtis@TheClassicalStation.org.
WCPE can be heard worldwide, 24/7, via the Web in multiple streaming formats, including the next generation IPv6. Visit TheClassicalStation.org/internet.shtml to begin listening online.

About WCPE:
With a 30-year history, WCPE is a non-commercial, 100 percent listener-supported, independent station dedicated to excellence in Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day. Community-minded business underwriters and foundations are among the 150,000 listeners in the North Carolina broadcast area. General Manager Deborah S. Proctor’s leadership has enabled the WCPE community to include national and worldwide listeners. Other radio stations and cable television systems can rebroadcast Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day. WCPE is one of the first public broadcasters to stream on the Internet. WCPE is heard worldwide on the Internet in multiple formats, including the next generation IPv6. Because WCPE receives no tax-derived support, the station conducts two on-air fundraising campaigns and two major mail-out campaigns per year to raise needed operating funds. Quarter Notes, the WCPE Program Guide, is published four times a year as a means to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. It is distributed to station supporters and is also available online at TheClassicalStation.org/guide. For more information, visit TheClassicalStation.Org or call 1-800-556-5178.
